I found my voice at NMH

August 10th, 2010 | by admin

I spent my sophomore year in an anonymous public high school where I was cast as a tree in a production of The Wizard of Oz. When I got to NMH as a junior, I was given the lead in the musical. I will always credit NMH, and particularly Ray Harvey, with helping me find my voice. Today, I am still singing and music is an essential part of my life and character.

Just a few of my favorite memories

It was my first opportunity to live with girls my age.
I enjoyed being “student cop” – being responsible for younger students.
There were many opportunities for outdoor activities = sleeping-over at the Cabin.
Mountain Day – cooking eggs and bacon on toast over a fire in a #10 can.
Tree Day – Having a dancing part in the program “Sleeping Beauty”.
The Athletic Programs – learned about “fair play” and “team work”.
Learned to appreciate the “gifts” given to us by God through nature: the beauty of trees and birds.
The music in Chapel and Sacred Concert – a spiritual event.
A feeling of loyalty toward our founder – D.L. Moody and our campus; the values he endowed to us

To all of the friends and faculty that got me through NMH, thank you.

I’ve made some unforgettable friends, had an amazing advisor, a college counselor that actually helped me far more than their job required, teachers who actually reached out more than they had to, and a plethora of faculty that helped make life just that much easier. Thank you. There are far too many names to list and without your help I’d be quite a bit different now.

To anyone that has been wanting to say something to me, now is the time to say it. I’ll be living in Cape Cod starting tomorrow after graduation. Give me a call or send me an email,

Thanks again,

Alex. ’10

11 Years

I have lived here since I was seven, and every single person at this school has had a huge impact on my life and has helped make me into the person I am. If you’ve fed me, coached me, taught me, kept my house livable, advised me, made sure I got my mail, fixed me when I was hurt, been my classmate, or been my friend, there is no way that I could ever possibly express how much you have done for me.

Even if I don’t know you, you have helped make these 11 years at NMH amazing.

Thank you.

I don’t know where I will be next year, yet, but I will be attending GWU in DC in the fall of 2011.

I will miss you all, so please keep in touch.

My life here has had ups and downs.

Some of my memories are good, some fantastic, some funny, some sad.

Some make me wince in embarrassment.

But all of them are unforgettable and priceless.

NMH is not just a school, it’s an experience, and one I will always look back to for guidance.

Thanks to everyone who made my time here special.
